Wynn Resorts Confirms It Will Build New Hotel on Alon Site

In a corporate earnings call, Wynn Resorts confirmed our story of Dec. 2017 that the company will build a new hotel on the former Alon site.

We love when that happens, especially when “experts” said Wynn planned to “warehouse” the land. Suck it, experts.

Wynn Resorts purchased the abandoned Alon site (before that it was the site of the New Frontier) for $336 million.

The tentative name for the new Wynn project is Wynn West.

Wynn Encore

They should invent a Las Vegas version of the sunglasses in “They Live.” Yes, we drink a lot.

Wynn West will have 2,000 to 3,000 rooms, and will be connected to Wynn and Encore by means of an “umbilical hallway,” whatever that might actually be.

Actually, dibs on Umbilical Hallway as a band name.

During the earnings call, Steve Wynn said the new project will move relatively quickly, as analysis and design have been happening for some time, and renderings for Wynn West will be shared in the coming months.

Wynn West will be just one element of Steve Wynn’s big picture plans for the north end of the Las Vegas Strip. Check out our list of what’s going on in the neighborhood.

Other projects include Wynn Paradise Park, an attraction already under construction on the former Wynn Golf Club land.

Wynn Golf Club

Later, Wynn Golf Club.

Wynn Paradise Park will feature a mile-long lagoon and will take up 26 acres. By comparison, the fountain attraction at Bellagio is eight acres.

Yes, there will be ziplines.

Steve Wynn SlotZilla

Easily one of our most surreal Las Vegas moments of all time: Steve Wynn flying on the SlotZilla zipline.

Steve Wynn is a fascinating dude, and you, a mere mortal, can listen to him speak enthusiastically about all things Wynn while saying things like, “God lives in the details.” He also says “Nevada” and “Alon” wrong. Go here.

Feel free to ignore all the Macau talk, although the success of Wynn Resorts in China is a key reason the company can afford these projects in Las Vegas.

Here’s a fun read about Why Wynn Wins.

Wynn Resorts always seems to deliver the goods, so we’re excited to see what the company has in store for Las Vegas.

Wynn wins because he thinks things through beforehand and analyzes his customer base. It’s the reason he’s gotten to where he is today. He was the original Derek Stevens.

$400 a night. Four hundred dollars could buy me another ten minutes at the blackjack table. I’ll need to think about it.

Wynn is successful because he prices certain customers out of his buildings.
“Rich people only like being around rich people,” he said. “Nobody likes being around poor people, especially poor people.” – SW So he is creating perceived value at his properties by telling everyone they are better than everyone else, which for the most part is true. The question really is, Is it so much better that its worth the prices he is asking? Oh yeah if you listen to the earning call, he went on a short political rant about the tax bill as well.

And that’s exactly how I feel when I walk through Wynn/Core, like I’m surrounded by people who think they’re better than everyone else.

Which is why in 22 trips to Vegas in 7 years I’ve spent about a grand total of an hour in Wynn properties.

I had an opposite experience. I visited Wynn for one hour and came out feeling that I was better than myself.

Jesus was poor. He’s still got lots of friends that don’t regard him as merely trailer trash. The rich and poor can’t get enough of Jesus. I think maybe Mr. Wynn was talking out his ass.

More than anyone else, Mr. Wynn has made Las Vegas what it is today–and I don’t mean that as a compliment.

Fascinating and empowering for women and girls everywhere. Imagine the psychological stress of the multitude of fools who haven’t been exposed yet but know their day is most likely coming soon. Wynn is just the latest. Yes, Karma is a bitch!

Yeah, pretty sure that site is cursed. Considering the rape allegations today, Wynn won’t be building SH!T.

My guess is Wynn will be forced to step down as CEO. The projects may be slowed a bit, but they will move forward. As the article mentions, much of the preliminary work has already been completed.
