MGM Grand Turns On Its Juiced-Up New Digital Marquee

MGM Grand has flipped the switch on its fancy new digital marquee, and it’s a worthy entry in the race for the most sparkly sign on the Las Vegas Strip.

The giant MGM is more dazzling than ever, now lit up with 27,520 LED lights.

The sign is split into roughly two halves. One side is a static image (at left, above), the other is a huge digital display showcasing the entertainment offerings at MGM Grand like Cirque du Soleil’s “Ka” (the Asian one), magician David Copperfield and Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club.

Our photo taken during the upgrade shows the framework for the dramatic increase in screen size.

Here’s a video we took of the sign in action. Which, in retrospect, given the quality of the video, is a lot like watching paint dry, but we’re sharing it, anyway.

MGM Grand’s new sign puts it in the upper echelon of digital signs on The Strip. Aria’s wins for biggest and crispest, The Cosmopolitan’s isn’t too shabby and The Linq’s marquee will soon be giving the others a run for their money.

Here’s another segment being shown on the MGM Grand’s new sign.

Trivia: MGM is also an initialism for "Male Genital Mutilation," typically in relation to circumcision. Sorry to be a buzzkill.

At the moment, MGM Grand doesn’t appear to have too much content to display on its new marquee, but we trust more is in the works.

Showing the same old videos when you have a brand new digital marquee is a little like driving a Maserati in a school zone. MGM Grand, let’s see what this baby can do!
