Las Vegas Company’s 2,996 Flag “Healing Field” Honors 9/11 Victims

A Las Vegas company is displaying 2,996 American flags to honor the victims of 9/11.

We expect to be back to our normal snarky photo captions soon, sorry.

Palm Northwest Mortuary & Cemetery is responsible for what it’s calling the “Healing Field.”

The flags are a moving reminder of the scope of the terror attacks on on the morning of September 11, 2001.

Each flag represents a life lost, and bears the name of a 9/11 victim.

Things just got real.

The flags will be on display until Sep. 16, 2016.

The last time the flags were displayed was five years ago, and this is the final time they’ll be shown.

Here’s some video we shot during an emotionally wrenching visit.

Yes, the flags are a marketing tool for Palm Northwest Mortuary & Cemetery,
but as marketing tools go, this is a deeply profound one.

It’s enough to make you want to invade somebody.

It is difficult to grasp the scope of the 9/11 attacks, but row after row of flags is a staggering illustration of how many lives were lost and why we will never forget that day.

We don’t use the word “staggering” lightly.

The “Healing Field” is free and open to the public.

So many names.

Palm Northwest Mortuary & Cemetery is located at 6701 N. Jones, about 20 minutes north of the Las Vegas Strip.

Bring Kleenex. Preferably industrial strength.

A moving tribute to the victims of 911. Thanks for posting this on the 15th anniversary of the attack. Cannot believe that 15 years later we are still fighting these creatures

I have a small problem with this- 2,996 includes the 19 Islamo-nazi terrorist hijackers. They should be excluded. Only the 2,977 Americans should be memorialized. Someone email the company and have the 19 removed.
