El Loco Roller Coaster at Circus Circus Las Vegas Screams Toward Completion

Las Vegas thrill-seekers will soon have a new roller coaster to test their fortitude, the El Loco at Circus Circus.

Yes, the under-construction roller coaster is called what amounts to “The Crazy,” so saying “the El Loco” seems redundant. Hey, we didn’t name the thing.

Hold onto your pollo, this is going to be a wild ride.

We stopped by Adventuredome at Circus Circus, the world’s largest indoor theme park, to check on the progress of this new attraction, and El Loco is, in roller coaster parlance, one big-ass ride.

The El Loco is one of just six such coasters worldwide, designed by S&S Worldwide, Inc. Read more about all the El Loco coasters.

We predict a citywide spike in “Aiee!” after El Loco opens.

For starters, riders on the El Loco roller coaster will rise 70 feet before plummeting while experiencing a 1.5 “vertical G” force.

Other features of the ride this Las Vegas blog will not be going on include “a 45-degree outwardly banked turn, a greater-than-straight-down diving drop, and a 180-degree turn that races over the edge into a barrel roll.”

Really? “Greater-than-straight-down”? Apparently, El Loco is going to bend time, space and physics as we know it. Just another day in Las Vegas, baby.

The same company that designed El Loco also did the Big Shot at the top of the Stratosphere.

El Loco’s track is 1,300 feet long, and replaces Adventuredome’s Rim Runner flume ride, one of the park’s original attractions when it opened in 1993.

El Loco at Circus Circus is expected to toss its first cookies in December, 2013.
